[Part 2 of 3] Our Vetting Process: Peace of Mind Starts Here

Part 2 of 3 of the Blog Series
Part 2 of 3 of the Blog Series

At Silo Care, we understand that inviting someone into your home—especially to care for your children—is an incredibly personal decision. It requires more than just credentials and availability. It demands trust, alignment, and a sense of safety that allows you to truly exhale. That’s why our vetting process is the heart of what we do.

Whether you're a new parent seeking your first nanny or a seasoned family looking for a better match, our promise is the same: only the most qualified, thoughtful, and trustworthy caregivers make it through our doors—and into your home.

In this blog, we’ll walk you through how our comprehensive, multi-step vetting process works, why it’s designed the way it is, and how it sets a new standard for what families should expect from premium nanny services.

A Thoughtful Approach to Childcare

Before we dive into the details, it’s important to share our philosophy: at Silo Care, we don’t just hire caregivers—we partner with professionals who understand that caring for children is sacred work. We look for people who blend technical skill with deep empathy and who view their role as one of genuine impact.

Our vetting process is designed to uncover not just qualifications, but character. It's how we identify the nannies who will bring peace, stability, and joy to your home.

Step 1: The Application and Pre-Screen

Every potential nanny starts by submitting an in-depth application. This includes:

  • Detailed work history and resume

  • Childcare certifications

  • Personal bio and motivations for working in childcare

  • Availability, preferences, and role flexibility

Once reviewed by our team, eligible applicants move on to the pre-screening phase. We take time to confirm that the basics are in place: current certifications, appropriate experience levels, and role suitability.

But here’s where things start to set Silo Care apart—we don’t just check off boxes. We start getting to know the person behind the profile.

Step 2: Personality and Values Alignment

We believe emotional intelligence and personality fit are just as important as qualifications. During a comprehensive interview process, we explore:

  • Childcare philosophy and discipline approach

  • Attitudes toward communication and boundaries

  • Emotional awareness and conflict resolution skills

  • Flexibility with routine, travel, and multi-tasking

  • Cultural and lifestyle compatibility with different families

We also ask situational questions—“What would you do if a child had a tantrum in public?” or “How would you handle differing instructions from co-parents?”—to gauge real-world judgment and problem-solving.

This human-first approach helps us find candidates who aren’t just experienced, but who also carry themselves with the grace and professionalism our families deserve.

Step 3: Reference Checks

We personally reach out to at least 2–3 former employers or references. We don’t just confirm employment—we ask the deeper questions:

  • How did this caregiver bond with the children?

  • Was communication consistent and clear?

  • How did they handle high-pressure situations?

  • Would you rehire this person?

  • What type of family would they thrive with?

This step is often one of the most revealing, giving us a full picture of how the nanny shows up in a family setting—day after day, month after month.

Step 4: Background and Security Checks

Trust is everything, which is why our background checks go above and beyond. We use licensed third-party partners to conduct:

  • Nationwide and provincial criminal record checks

  • Vulnerable Sector Checks (essential for working with children)

  • Driving record history (for roles that require transportation)

  • Social media scans, where appropriate

We leave no stone unturned when it comes to your family's safety.

Step 5: Skills, Certifications, and Ongoing Training

Every nanny we work with is required to have:

  • Valid First Aid and CPR (Level C) certification

  • Up-to-date immunizations

  • Knowledge of age-appropriate milestones and safety protocols

Many also bring additional training such as:

  • Early Childhood Education diplomas

  • Infant Care Specialist certification

  • Montessori or Waldorf familiarity

  • Sleep training, potty training, and feeding support

And because we’re committed to ongoing excellence, we offer optional training refreshers, workshops, and updates on best practices so our caregivers continue to grow in their roles.

Step 6: Cultural Fit and Family Matching

Once a candidate passes all vetting phases, we begin the most personalized part of the process: matching them with the right family.

This step includes:

  • Reviewing family profiles and expectations

  • Aligning schedules, household norms, and values

  • Ensuring cultural sensitivity and lifestyle compatibility

  • Pre-placement interviews with you and your family

We don’t just want to find someone who can do the job—we want to place someone who will enhance your home life, connect meaningfully with your children, and become a trusted part of your extended family.

Step 7: Trial Period and Ongoing Support

We always recommend a trial period to ensure the fit feels right in real time. During this time, we’re available for feedback, guidance, and check-ins to make sure everything is running smoothly.

If anything feels off, we take immediate steps to resolve the issue—whether that means additional coaching or offering a replacement match.

And even after the trial period ends, our support continues. Think of us as your long-term partner in care, here to advise you as your family’s needs evolve.

Peace of Mind, The Silo Care Way

You deserve to feel confident every time you walk out the door—and completely at ease when you’re home. Our vetting process is intentionally rigorous because the families we serve expect nothing less.

The result? Caregivers who are not only competent, but compassionate. Professionals who aren’t just experienced, but who align deeply with your parenting style, lifestyle, and values.

It’s not just about checking boxes. It’s about building lasting relationships that support your family’s wellbeing.
