Frequently Asked Questions

What Would You Like to Know?

Do you have a question about our services? Here are some frequently asked questions we’ve already answered. We’ve strived to include as much information as possible throughout the site, but if you have any additional inquiries, we’d be happy to help out. Feel free to call us or send us an email with your requests.

1. What is the average search time for a nanny?

The answer varies depending on your specific requirements. Generally, the search can take anywhere from two to eight weeks. We take into account factors such as the type of nanny you're looking for, whether you need someone who can drive, the ages of your children, any special needs they may have, and the income you're able to provide. We want to make sure we find you the perfect match for your family, so we carefully consider all of these factors during the search process.

2. How are the caregivers screened?

The Silo Care Nanny Agency takes great pride in our thorough screening procedure. This comprises:

  • A one-on-one conversation with a member of our team

  • A comprehensive, unblemished criminal background check and reference confirmation

  • Education Verification

  • A verified First Aid/CPR certificate

  • A driving history check (if they drive)

  • Government-issued identification

Beyond the minimal qualifications, we also review additional qualifications such as formal education, child development training, teaching or tutoring experience, a background in second languages, a passion for cooking, travel experience, and specific certificates (swimming, infant toddler, nursing etc.).

3. Does Silo Care offer only live-in nannies?

We offer both live-in and live-out nannies. Based on the nanny and family preferences, we have nannies looking for jobs that range from live-in to live-out nanny roles in temporary and permanent placements.

4. Can I work with a Nanny for a short period? And at what cost?

Absolutely! Silo Care offers a temporary nanny placement, designed for durations of not more than 3 consecutive months. For the first month, the agency charge is $1000, and for the next 2 months, it is $500 each month.

Looking for something more long term, Silo Care offers a permanent nanny placement for durations that are 4 or more months. The agency charge is 15% of the candidates annual compensation with minimum fees of $4,000.

If you're looking to hire a nanny for a duration that does not fit the criteria above, please give us a call and we'll be happy to accommodate.

5. What expenses come along with hiring a nanny?

There are a few expenses to consider when planning your budget for hiring a nanny and taking on the role of their employer.

Please review the Silo Care Rates page for additional details.

Bear in mind when budget planning, nannies are now highly in demand since the breaking of the pandemic.

The pay range for the kind of nannies we specialize in is now $25 to $40 gross per hour, depending on their level of education, experience, and the nature of the position.

To cover the employer's share of CPP, EI, and WSIB, the nanny's gross income should be increased by 7–10% (depending on your province). You will be the nanny's employer and their sole source of income.

Please note, we are pleased to provide payroll services at an additional $299 for full-time permanent positions (40+ hours per week, a minimum of 12 months).
